The Harvey Family’s first foray into the hospitality sector begun when Cheers Bar and Grill opened it’s doors in 1988 in the basement of the Westminster House Building. With a desire to expand, 1996 saw the Harvey family purchase the George Street and Mezzanine levels of the building that had been operating as a time-zone amusement parlour. The venue then underwent a refurbishment and Cheers Bar expanded 3 level footprint was opened in 1997.

Cheers Bar was initially opened as a bistro, serving contemporary Australian food, however the venues expanded 3 level footprint and the communities yearning for a sports bar as the Sydney Olympics fast approached, saw Cheers Bar evolve into the premier sporting institution it is today. It was with the re-opening in 1997 that our well known motto “Where Good Sports Meet” was introduced.

Sports have always been a part of the Harvey family, so it was only natural that Cheers Bar developed into Sydney’s hub of live sports. Family patriarch Colin Harvey had been a licensed bookmaker and the family attendant, the races, rugby league and other sporting events regularly. In the present day, customers from all around the world can come join Cheers bars great atmosphere to watch their favorite sporting teams compete in the company of like minded fans.

The Bistro has continued to produce quality food and has developed to showcase a wider range of international cuisines as part of our rotating specials menu. Further, 8o proof serves as a versatile space for hosting various functions, an intimate cocktail bar during the week and a bustling nightclub on the weekends.
